Senior Director, Communications and Media Relations

The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) is one of the largest trade associations in the nation, representing over 300 HVAC manufacturers. The Senior Director, Communications and Media Relations will oversee global communications strategies, manage media relations, and supervise communications professionals.

Responsibilities

Serve as chief spokesperson for the association, establishing relationships with reporters at key publications
Work closely with colleagues in other AHRI departments to ensure their communications, media, social media, and marketing needs are met
Serve as editor of all AHRI publications. Establish deadlines, writes and edits content submitted by staff responsible for the drafting of AHRI communications vehicles, including the website. Responsible for the look and feel of the AHRI website and other on- and off-line communications
Create and enforce AHRI brand and style guidelines. Work with AHRI staff to ensure up-to-date and accurate information is maintained on AHRI’s websites
Maintain current knowledge of legislative and regulatory issues important to the association’s membership for the purpose of communicating AHRI’s positions on those issues to individuals and groups within and outside of the association. Provide recommendations on advocacy for emerging/current issues

Required

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field from an accredited college or university
10 years of experience in media relations or strategic communications
Three to five years of communications/media experience on Capitol Hill, in a federal agency, or equivalent
Minimum three years of experience supervising staff
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with web-based technology and research vehicles
Firm grasp of the English language in both written and oral form; strong ability to edit the work of others
Solid knowledge of the legislative process. Understanding of the regulatory process is a plus
