Allergy Technician

Responsibilities

Accurately prepare allergy vials for injections by using two patient verifiers
Administer allergy injections
Uses two patient identifiers before treating or testing patients
Test and treat patients for allergy-related problems in a caring manner
Assist physicians and physician assistants as needed to ensure good patient flow
When needed, assist front office staff in scheduling allergy patients. Schedule should result in efficient patient flow and high patient satisfaction
Responsible for accurately maintaining allergy supplies and inventories in a timely manner
Responsible for weekly maintenance of allergy testing equipment
Place the patients in the exam room to ensure they are as comfortable as possible. Obtains vital signs, enters the information into the patient’s chart, accurately completes medication reconciliation
Screens telephone calls for the physicians or physician assistants as needed. Takes accurate clinical messages within the limits of his/her knowledge and practice policy
May answer patient’s inquiries with respect to medical questions within the limits of knowledge and practice policy and tasks the provider in the electronic health record as necessary
Ensures that all equipment in the exam room is clean and properly set up prior to each patient encounter and after the last visit of the day
Ensures solutions are adequate for antigen multi-well and ID boards
Accurately records refrigerator temperatures and documents corrective action as assigned
Ensures lights are not burned out
Checks emergency kit (if applicable)
Conduct chart preparation 1 week in advance
Prepares new start immunotherapy packets for SLIT/SCIT
Utilizes Allergy Edge to submit for mixing
Maintains strict confidentiality
Travel via personal vehicle to and from other ENTPSA clinics as needed
Answers telephone and either responds to inquiry or directs caller to appropriate personnel and adds new note in electronic health record as necessary
Adheres to the company’s policies and procedures and code of conduct

Required

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 1 year of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
Ability to write simple correspondence
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, coworkers, and providers
Ability to measure millimeter-sized local reactions (wheels) using a metric ruler
Able to calculate injection doses using addition
Able to calculate drops in dosages using subtraction
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of electronic health record; Internet software; Allergy Edge; Word Processing software, Paylocity, and Email software
Friendly, outgoing personality with pleasant disposition who cares about others
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms
Able to talk and listen
The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch
The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
Position requires individual to be dressed in uniform 100% of time
Individuals will be required to wear personal protective equipment depending on the exposure risk: including rubber gloves, face mask, goggles and/or surgical gown
Position will require frequent exposure to blood and body fluids. Appropriate protective equipment will be provided
Exposure to hazardous materials such as cleaning and disinfecting solutions
