Sr. Marketing & Communications Specialist
Battelle delivers when others can’t and is seeking a Senior Marketing and Communications Specialist for the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON). In this role, you will lead strategy and execution of marketing and communications plans, enhancing NEON’s visibility and amplifying Battelle’s brand presence across key stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Internal communications: Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies that inform and engage employees through leadership and employee messaging focused on brand, culture, mission, scientific and technological achievements, performance results and customer needs. Support internal engagement efforts, including all-hands meetings and other key employee events
External Marketing and Communications: Design, implement, optimize and monitor comprehensive integrated marketing and communications campaigns, as well as leadership presentations, that align with Observatory strategic objectives, enhance brand visibility and drive the use of NEON data, specimens and other infrastructure resources. Contribute to written reports to NSF/clients monthly, quarterly and annually
Content Development and Management: Lead content planning, creation and distribution across various channels, including the NEON website, blogs, social media and the NEON newsletter. Monitor analytics to optimize and track performance
Brand Expansion and Consistency: Expand the visibility and reach of the NEON program and the Battelle brand through marketing and communications, ensuring consistency across the program
Media Relations: Craft messaging and prepare leaders and subject matter experts for media interviews in partnership with the Battelle media relations team. Elevate storytelling and thought leadership with agency support to enhance NEON’s visibility and reputation
Leadership Advisory: Advise leadership on marketing and communication strategies and tactics to ensure alignment and achieve Observatory goals
Unified Brand Voice: Develop messaging and campaigns that seamlessly integrate the NEON program within the Battelle “Mission First, Safety Always” mindset to help foster a unified organizational culture across all initiatives
Analytical Evaluation: Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and communication strategies, implement improvements for optimization and quantify and report their impact
Qualification
Required
Proven hands-on experience across marketing, communications, digital, social media and media relations
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, high emotional intelligence and impeccable grammar
Proven ability to develop strategic social media content and manage multi-channel campaigns
Strong strategic thinking, organization, project management and campaign planning skills, with the flexibility to adapt and execute in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Demonstrated success managing projects, advising peers and working effectively across cross-functional teams
Ability to travel approximately 20% for stakeholder engagement and key events
Skilled in Salesforce, Buffer, MS 360 Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Loop, Lists), MS Co-Pilot, social media platforms and content management systems
