Senior Accountant

Responsibilities

Completes timely and accurately the monthly closing process and prepares financial statements and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information
Tracks grant income and expenditures as required
Reconciles accounts timely and frequently
Prepare, review, and post journal entries including recurring monthly entries, accruals, and adjusting entries to the general ledger
Maintain fixed asset accounting and ensure proper capitalization, depreciation, and reporting
Perform detailed account reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly
Oversee and maintain the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with established policies and procedures
Coordinate and execute month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all deadlines are met and all required reports are generated
Collaborate with key departments to gather information for monthly financial statements and departmental reporting
Prepare and analyze financial statements and variance reports; support hospital leadership with financial decision-making
Monitor compliance with internal controls over general ledger activities and participate in periodic process improvements
Provide backup support to other accounting operations such as accounts payable, payroll, and cash receipts, as necessary
Ensure all financial records are retained according to policy and are organized for efficient retrieval and audit purposes
Assist with annual state and external financial audit
Assist in preparation of Medicare cost reports
Assist with internal and external audits by providing needed documentation and explanations for general ledger accounts
Prepares and files timely periodic reports with agencies such as the Washington State Hospital Association, the Washington State Department of Health, the Washington State Department of Revenue, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Supports the CFO and other leaders in preparation of the annual capital and operating budget
Support budgeting and forecasting processes by providing general ledger and historical data as needed

Qualification

GAAP knowledgeAccounting software proficiencyMicrosoft ExcelPublic Accountant certificationHealthcare ERP systemsProfessional accounting experienceAcute hospital experience

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or other related field
2 years professional accounting experience
Thorough knowledge of GAAP, hospital accounting principles, and relevant federal/state healthcare regulations
Strong proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Lawson, Meditech, or other healthcare ERP systems)
Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel

Preferred

Certified as a Public Accountant
Experience in an acute hospital setting
Strong proficiency in Workday ERP system
