Regional VP, Federal Public Affairs

Sempra Infrastructure is a leader in energy infrastructure, and they are seeking a Regional VP of Federal Public Affairs. This role is responsible for defining the government relations vision, advising executive leadership on policy risks, and leading engagement with federal legislators and agencies to advance organizational priorities.

Responsibilities

Leads strategy, planning, budgeting, execution, and oversight of federal government affairs, directing legislative and regulatory efforts with FERC and other U.S. agencies to advance organizational priorities
Advances the organization’s position by engaging federal legislators, FERC commissioners, agency leaders, trade associations, and advocacy groups, and builds high‑level relationships, including serving in external leadership roles
Provides departmental leadership through performance management and staff development; monitors political and regional trends to guide strategy and delivers timely counsel and early‑warning insights to senior leadership
Defines enterprise‑wide Government Relations philosophy, strategy, and operating model
Advises the board and executive leadership on systemic public‑policy risks and opportunities
Oversees advocacy activities across all jurisdictions, policy domains, and business segments
Leads engagement on the most sensitive, complex, and high‑stakes policy matters
Ensures compliance with all legal, ethical, and reputational standards
Represents the organization with senior government leaders and key external stakeholders
Shapes long‑term external positioning and public‑policy influence strategies
Builds and sustains a resilient Government Relations leadership and talent pipeline
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Typically requires a 4 year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
Typically requires 20 years of related experience
Requires 15 or more years of previous federal government, corporate, or agency experience
Previous supervisory experience is required
Demonstrated knowledge in resolving issues with permitting and public affairs processes

Communication Management - The systematic planning, implementing, monitoring, and revision of all the channels of communication within an organization and between organizations
Competitive Intelligence - Competitive intelligence, sometimes referred to as corporate intelligence, refers to the ability to gather, analyze, and use information collected on competitors, customers, and other market factors that contribute to a business's competitive advantage
Government Relations - The process of influencing public policy at all levels of governance: local, regional, national, and even global
Market Analysis - Analyzing competing products, services, and organizations in the external business environment
Policy Analysis - Determines which of various policies will achieve a given set of goals in light of the relations between the policies and the goals
Policy Design & Development - The effort to develop efficient and effective policies through the application of knowledge about policy
Record Keeping and Documentation - Creating, distributing, using, maintaining and disposition of recorded information maintained as evidence of business activities and transactions
Regulatory Compliance - Ensuring an organization's adherence to laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to its business processes
Relationship Management - Activities undertaken to improve business relationships

Preferred

3 or more years of FERC or energy regulatory-related work experience
Knowledge of federal regulations impacting the energy industry and proposed regional regulations is preferred
