The role involves hands-on training in a materials chemistry laboratory, performing experimental laboratory research tasks, and supporting various materials preparation and testing activities.

Responsibilities

Perform experimental laboratory research tasks following established safety and environmental protection practices
Perform daily experiments using chemicals and electrical test equipment
Perform materials preparation (sample substrates, buffers, reaction solutions, wet chemical synthesis, etc.)
Perform experiments to test and characterize various materials through electrochemical and spectroscopic methods
Transport chemicals and/or experimental samples between labs
Maintain lab cleanliness, clean and store glassware, and ensure proper disposal of chemical waste
Perform research under the supervision of the principal investigator
Discuss and establish experimental tasks
Perform data analysis
Report and discuss results

Qualification

Required

Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

Preferred

Pursuing a degree in one of the following areas: Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Physics
Experience and working knowledge of basic laboratory skills and practices
Ability to follow processes and directions accurately
Ability to work successfully on a team
Demonstrated self-motivation and independence
Excellent written and oral communication skills
