Temporary Gate Services Assistant
NEOGOV is seeking a Temporary Gate Services Assistant to support the Department of Waste Resources in Riverside County. This role involves opening and closing landfill sites, assessing and collecting user fees, and enforcing departmental regulations while providing customer service and maintaining operational records.

Responsibilities
Screen customers to determine the proper classification of waste materials and recyclables according to established regulations and policies; provide directions for dumping locations by customer and/or waste type
Prohibit dumping of unacceptable waste and refer haulers to appropriate sites where possible; using platform scales, weigh vehicles in order to assess appropriate fees, and determine the tare weight of vehicles if necessary
Calculate and collect appropriate fees; assess and determine fees based on the classification of waste material and the weight or volume of each load; collect fees by cash, credit card or Department account transaction; issue receipts and record the amount and type of refuse for each transaction
Prepare daily reports of revenue and receipts; maintain scale and scale house in safe and operable condition at all times; may prepare and deliver daily bank deposits
Provide customer service; answer inquiries and provide general information to the public concerning operating hours, site locations and directions; explain landfill rules, safety protocols and dumping instructions
Troubleshoot computer equipment issues; relay problems to appropriate staff, and subsequently process customers manually
Open and close site daily and assist with traffic control; control traffic when area is congested; notify supervisor of stalled vehicles; ensure the site is clear of visitors at closing
Keep track of business supplies and inventory; submit requests for supplies as needed
May operate and perform checks on diesel generator
May exercise right to refuse entry to customers not conforming to regulations
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high school, possession of a Certificate of Proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. examination
Six months of customer service experience with primary responsibility for cash handling and interfacing with the public
Six months of performing clerical work directly related to landfill operations
Knowledge of simple recordkeeping procedures and basic arithmetic
Ability to read, understand, and apply regulations pertaining to the use and operation of County landfill sites
Ability to categorize objects consistently according to verbal descriptions
Ability to perform arithmetic computations quickly and accurately
Ability to keep accurate, complete records according to prescribed procedures
Ability to explain and enforce regulations, policies and procedures in a tactful and courteous manner
Ability to accept responsibility and work independently
Ability to communicate effectively with others in investigating complaints and resolving disputes regarding landfill site operation
Possession of a valid California Driver's License
Preferred
Strong customer service and cash-handling experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Bilingual candidates (Spanish) are highly desired

MEDICAL/DENTAL/VISION INSURANCE: A choice of different medical, dental and visions plan are available to elect. The County provides a Flexible Benefit Credit contribution as governed by the applicable LIUNA Memorandum of Understanding to contribute towards the cost of these plans.
MISCELLANEOUS RETIREMENT: County of Riverside has three retirement Tiers through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).
DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual): 0 < 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days) 4 < 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days) 10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days) Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance)
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY: Employees contribute to State Disability Insurance (SDI), which provides wage replacement benefits for those unable to work due to non-work-related illness, injury, or pregnancy. SDI also includes Paid Family Leave benefits. The wage replacement rate, as defined by current law, is between 60-70% of wages earned during the SDI eligibility period. Benefits can be coordinated with other available leave balances to provide up to 100% of regular pay.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable Memorandum of Understanding.
