Assistant Branch Manager

Responsibilities

Assumes responsibility for assisting in the supervision of Branch operations
Develop new customer relationships and expand and retain existing relationships by proactively identifying financial needs of the credit union’s members and present all appropriate product and service options by working cooperatively with appropriate internal business partners
Provides consultative services to Members regarding credit union products and services and ensures that team members are providing consultative services by assessing the Member's needs, addressing their concerns and gaining agreement
Ensures that operations are conducted in accordance with established Credit Union policies, legal and regulatory requirements, and audit standards. Provides suggestions for improved effectiveness
Ensures Branch security. Assists with opening and closing the building in accordance with set hours. Tests security equipment as assigned. Assists with vault responsibilities
Ensures that the Branch balances all transactions at the close of each day. Proofs Tellers, runs related reports, and balances the vault at the end of each day. Provides assistance to Tellers and MSRs as needed. Completes month end certification of all cash items and negotiable instruments
Assists with MSR functions. Performs duties related to loan processing, certificates of deposit, IRAs, and processing death and disability claims. Handles direct deposit functions and safe deposit boxes. Assists in opening new member accounts and with loan closings and disbursements
Promotes Branch business development and seeks to broaden member base. Actively cross-sells Credit Union products and services through support of community development activities and initiatives
Acts as a Loan Officer; processing and approving member loans within established policies and limits
Completes required reports and records and ensures that Branch functions are properly documented
Assists with implementing changes to established policies and procedures within the Branch
Complies with all Credit Union policies and procedures including those related to Bank Secrecy Act regulations
Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective coordination and working relations with Branch personnel
Provides assistance, direction, and supervision as needed, including guidance for Member Advocates
Reviews and monitors the work of Branch personnel. Provides suggestions and support as necessary
Assists with orientation of new employees and staff training sessions. Ensures that personnel are well trained in all phases of their respective jobs. Performs cross training as necessary
Assists with determining appropriate staffing levels and scheduling employees
Assists with tracking individual progress and conducting performance appraisals. Formulates and implements corrective actions as needed
Maintain thorough knowledge of all procedures affecting branch activities to complete appropriate action as required by circumstance
Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective, professional business relations with members
Ensures that members' requests and questions are promptly and courteously resolved. Answers members’ questions or refers appropriately. Verifies deposits and provides payoff and bluebook quotes
Ensures the members are informed of Credit Union services, products, and policies. Cross-sells services
Ensures that the Credit Union's professional reputation is maintained
Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned
Replaces Branch Manager as necessary. Assists with personnel functions as assigned
Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained
Assists with weekly audits if the TCD, ATM, and coin machine
Assists with the weekly ordering and receiving of branch cash shipments

Required

Associate degree or equivalent experience
Thorough knowledge of Credit Union products, services, and policies
Understanding of financial terminology and calculations
Understanding of Teller and Member Service Representative functions
Proficiency in Microsoft Applications
One to three years of related operations experience required
Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
Proven track record at successfully identifying and pursuing business development opportunities including coaching and management of branch staff
General knowledge of the functions of other departments and those that directly support branch sales, service and operations
Moderate mathematical skills
Well organized
Able to operate related computer applications and basic business equipment
Good marketing skills
Good supervisory abilities
Finger Dexterity: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together
Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly
Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
Repetitive Motions: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery
Physical Strength: Medium work; exerting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. constantly
Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions
Able to interpret a variety of technical instructions and can deal with multiple variables
Ability to compute discount, interest, profit, and loss; commission markup and selling price; ratio and proportion and percentage
Able to perform very simple algebra
Ability to read periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias
Ability to prepare business letters, proposals, summaries, and reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style
Ability to conduct training, communicate at panel discussions and to make professional presentations
