Air Quality Specialist (Environmental Trainee)

NEOGOV is seeking an Air Quality Specialist Trainee to join the Department of Environmental Protection. This role involves a 12-month training program focusing on inspections, investigations, and compliance with environmental regulations to ensure air quality standards are maintained.

Responsibilities

Conducting thorough inspections
Investigating public complaints
Developing comprehensive emission inventories (AIMS) within a designated geographical area
Assessment of compliance with relevant environmental regulations
Monitoring, compliance, and enforcement activities related to air quality management
Executing tasks for facilities as designated by the Air Quality District Supervisor (AQDS)
Ensuring that any existing or potential air pollution issues are thoroughly assessed, addressed, and resolved
Collection and entry of emission inventory data for the AIMS system
Regular inspections of control equipment and air pollution sources
Oversight of source tests performed by external consultants or the Bureau’s Division of Source Testing and Monitoring
Recommending necessary actions to ensure compliance
Utilizing all available mechanisms to facilitate prompt adherence to regulatory standards
Performing duties either with an Air Quality Specialist or the Air Quality District Supervisor
Producing work products such as memos, reports, letters that are reviewed by the supervisor before being issued or released

Required

Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
A bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree
This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license
You must meet the PA residency requirement
You must be able to perform essential job functions
