Equity and Engagement Counseling Specialist Full-time Standard

Washoe County School District is seeking an Equity and Engagement Counseling Specialist to support high school counselors in implementing the ASCA National Model and enhancing student engagement. The role involves coaching counselors, collaborating on equity strategies, and improving school climate through culturally responsive practices.

Responsibilities

Support school counselor assigned level vertical meetings; participate in the ASCA cohort and ASCA advisory meetings and onsite counseling consultation; support school counseling goals and initiatives such as child abuse reporting, bullying intervention, community referrals, IATs, standard of care for foster care students, SARB, DIAT and site level data collection, etc.; work within schools to assist with student case management and referral along the pathway to graduation; support school site family and student engagement plans and school climate through monitoring, training and support of the student and family engagement of the School Improvement Plans, Work to align school counselors to Family Engagement specialist work, address academically at-risk; work with the Office of Teaching, Learning and Leading and the Counseling Coordinator to facilitate unresolved concerns between parents and schools; support schools with implementation assistance and technical support on a menu of equity strategy choices including but not limited to book studies on culturally responsive schools, equity site teams, and professional development on culturally responsive school practices; support school sites to incorporate comprehensive counseling, equity and engagement as a result of the specialists site case management; and assist sites to systemically understand, identify and use the inter-dependent relationships of MTSS, equity, engagement and ASCA

Required

A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling and educational psychology or related field
Four (4) years of school counseling experience
Possession of a valid Nevada school counseling license
Knowledge of ASCA National Counseling Model
Knowledge of school counseling program development and implementation
Knowledge of basic principles of behavior theory and behavioral strategies
Knowledge of Response to Intervention/ Positive Behavioral Supports
Knowledge of IAT, DIAT, Infinite Campus
Knowledge of substance abuse and violence prevention
Knowledge of school culture and climate
Knowledge of the pathway to graduation
Knowledge of college applications and supports
Knowledge of student and parental engagement
Knowledge of student assessment
Skill at connecting systems, goals, services and programs
Skill at organizing and scheduling presentations
Skill at team building and coaching
Skill at communication and collaborating with site administrators, counselors, teachers and parents
Skill at communicating effectively orally and in writing
Skill at evaluating, assessing, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with selected sites
Skill at data entry and writing reports
