Senior Accountant

Vaco by Highspring is a growing organization seeking a Senior Accountant who will maintain accurate financial records and reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP. The role involves month-end close, financial reporting, inventory and cost accounting, and variance analysis, while supporting process improvements and collaborating cross-functionally to meet business objectives.

Responsibilities

Own and execute month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Maintain general ledger integrity and investigate and resolve discrepancies
Support annual audit activities by preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
Perform detailed variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods; explain key drivers
Analyze operating expenses, gross margin, and cost trends to support management decision-making
Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes in partnership with FP&A or leadership
Maintain accurate inventory accounting, including reconciliations, reserves, and roll-forwards
Oversee cost accounting processes, including standard costing, inventory valuation, and cost of goods sold
Analyze inventory variances, absorption, and production or purchasing cost fluctuations
Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to ensure accurate inventory counts and costing methodologies
Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal accounting policies, and established controls
Maintain documentation for accounting processes, estimates, and judgments
Support statutory, tax, and financial audits as required
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls
Support ERP and accounting system enhancements, upgrades, and automation initiatives
Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and process documentation
Partner with HR, Operations and other departments on financial initiatives
Serve as a key accounting resource for business partners, providing insight into financial impacts
Communicate complex accounting topics clearly to non-finance stakeholders

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
4-7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a growing or mid-sized organization
Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
Hands-on experience with inventory and cost accounting
Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Sage or similar)
Advanced Excel skills; experience with reporting and automation

Preferred

CPA or CPA-track preferred but not required
