PARKING ENFORCEMENT MONITOR

The City of Columbia is seeking a Parking Enforcement Monitor to enforce parking ordinances and regulations on the City and University of South Carolina campus. The role involves issuing parking citations, monitoring parking meters, and responding to public inquiries while maintaining accurate work records.

Responsibilities

Enforces City and University of South Carolina campus parking ordinances and regulations on assigned routes and schedules
Issues parking citations; provides court testimony as required
Monitors the condition of City parking meters; reports defective meters to appropriate staff
Places bags over parking meters as requested to prevent use
Performs parking coordination and enforcement work and staffs parking fee gates for special events as required
Maintains accurate and complete work records and reports
Maintains assigned equipment and vehicles
Conducts vehicle searches using tag or license information
Contacts tow truck when necessary
Receives and responds to inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance in areas of responsibility
Responds to hostile individuals
Performs general clerical work as required, including but not limited to records and reports, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, etc
Attends meetings, training, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills
Performs other related duties as assigned

Required

High school diploma or GED
Some relevant prior experience
Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License
Knowledge of addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and/or calculating ratios, rates and percentages
Ability to deal with the public in a courteous manner even in hostile situations
Ability to copy, transcribe, enter or post data or information
Ability to speak or signal to people to convey or exchange information of a general nature
Ability to handle or use machines, tools or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience, such as computers for data entry, fax machines, copiers, telephones or similar equipment; may service office machines, including adding paper and changing toner
Ability to perform semi-skilled work involving set procedures and rules but with frequent problems
Ability to read routine sentences, instructions, regulations, procedures or work orders; writing routine sentences and completing routine job forms and incident reports; speaking routine sentences using proper grammar
Ability to perform clerical, manual or technical tasks prescribed by standard practices but which may require computation, the use of several procedures, and the use of independent judgments with obvious choices; requires normal attention for accurate results
Ability to guide others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co-workers and others who depend on the service or product; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures but with many variations from the routine
