Responsibilities
Function as a senior engineering technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisor on assigned projects
Apply advanced technical expertise to address complex design challenges and contribute to the development of innovative engineering solutions within a defined discipline
Utilize digital tools and design software, including Bentley MicroStation 3D and/or AutoCAD 3D, to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables related to substation design
Review project requirements and determine the appropriate format, content, and level of detail required for deliverables
Establish, communicate, and enforce appropriate design and graphic standards to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with project and client requirements
Review design inputs and outputs to ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to applicable codes, standards, and project specifications
Perform design calculations, develop detailed material quantities and estimates, and maintain accurate technical records
Provide technical guidance, consultation, and oversight to other engineering technicians; review the work of others as required
Coordinate production activities to ensure deliverables meet quality expectations, budget constraints, and schedule requirements
Maintain drawing control and historical records in accordance with established project procedures
Promote quality and continuous improvement within the project team, group, or section; contribute to the development and enhancement of design guides, standards, and best practices
Participate in and/or lead process improvement and change management initiatives
Coordinate with other design disciplines and project team members to exchange information necessary for design development
Communicate project design requirements, progress, and schedules to internal teams and stakeholders
Support field activities and plant start-up efforts as required, including specialized system programming or commissioning support when applicable
Assist discipline or department management in identifying key client interests and drivers and developing approaches to address client needs
Identify training and development needs for supervised personnel and participate in or conduct training sessions and technical presentations
Serve as a recognized technical expert in one or more specialized areas and perform special technical assignments as needed
Qualification
Required
Minimum 11 years of relevant engineering technician experience, preferably within substation or power delivery projects
Extensive experience with Bentley MicroStation 3D and/or AutoCAD 3D in a substation design environment
Demonstrated ability to handle complex technical assignments independently and apply sound engineering judgment
Strong knowledge of applicable engineering codes, standards, and industry best practices
Proven ability to review, interpret, and apply design inputs and requirements accurately
Experience mentoring, training, and providing technical oversight to junior or mid-level technicians
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients
Preferred
Experience contributing to or leading process improvement initiatives
Prior involvement in field support, commissioning, or plant start-up activities related to substation or power infrastructure projects
Recognition as a subject matter expert within a specialized technical area
