Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Charge Nurse monitors the patient’s physical and emotional well-being and reports unusual behavior or physical ailments to the appropriate professional staff
Provides nursing, psychiatric, and personal care to mentally ill, emotionally disturbed, or intellectually disabled patients
Observes and influences patient’s behavior and communication while interacting with them, teaching and counseling them as well as garnering their trust
Takes and records measures of a patient’s physical condition using devices such as thermometers and blood pressure gauges and pulse oximetry machines
Encourages patients to develop work skills and to participate in social, recreational, and other therapeutic activities that enhance interpersonal skills and develop social and therapeutic relationships
Assists the professional staff in working with patients as required
Restrains violent, potentially violent, or suicidal patients by verbal or physical means as per policy
Assist patients in performing tasks such as bathing and keeping beds, clothing, and living areas clean
Acts as a role model for subordinate employees
Performs related duties as required
Mandatory overtime is an essential function of this position
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or the equivalent
One (1) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience in the care, treatment and development of patients or residents of a healthcare facility
Applicants selected for employment must successfully complete a chemical urinalysis and breath analysis drug screening test
Applicants selected must successfully complete a background check
Preferred
Six (6) months of experience as a Patient Monitor or Patient Care Technician may substitute for the required education and experience
Additional education may substitute for the required experience based on a year-for-year basis or as determined by the Office of Shared Administration Equivalency Chart
