Responsibilities

Perform developmental-level engineering tasks under supervision, applying standard practices to air, surface transportation, and building projects
Assist in designing construction plans for simple and moderately complex projects, including calculations and preparation of project reports
Maintain project files, develop written contract specifications, and support plan reviews to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards
Coordinate with interdepartmental groups, regulatory agencies, and local governments; attend design reviews, public hearings, and workshops as needed
Perform complex engineering tasks with greater independence and initiative, applying standard practices to air, surface transportation, and building projects
Assist in designing construction plans for complex projects; serve as primary designer on simpler projects, perform advanced calculations, and prepare detailed reports and contract specifications
Review and monitor the work of others for accuracy, completeness, and compliance; ensure proper plan layout and standards usage
Coordinate with interdepartmental groups, regulatory agencies, consultants, and local governments; attend design reviews, public hearings, workshops, and field verification of site conditions

Required

Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution accredited by ABET
A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution not accredited by ABET and an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination
Must have valid Driver's License
Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET
One year of entry level engineering, architectural or land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere
Five years of progressively responsible subprofessional engineering experience of which two years was as a Journey level Engineering Technician or Drafting Technician 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere
Graduate study in engineering and/or architecture may be substituted for the required experience as an Engineering Assistant 1. (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month of experience)
