The University of South Dakota is seeking a dynamic professional for the position of Professor of Practice or Assistant Professor of Music in the Music Industry and Technology curriculum. The successful candidate will design and teach courses while managing performance spaces and supervising student workers.

Responsibilities

Design, organize, and articulate a multi-year vision for the Music Industry and Technology curriculum that aligns with current industry demands
Teach courses that may include: intro to music technology, advanced sound production and recording, music industry business and law, leading a contemporary music ensemble, and others as assigned based on experience and knowledge
Track graduate outcomes and align course competencies with transferable skills necessary for immediate professional employment
Manage the light, sound, and recording requirements of the Music Department’s performance spaces, including the training and supervising of student workers in these areas
Perform secondary responsibilities that may include but are not limited to: applied studio lessons, committee work, supervising independent studies, or other projects as appropriate to the appointee’s qualifications and departmental needs
Teach online courses as part of a normal workload
Excellence in teaching and recruiting is expected — both in the classroom, on the campus, and in the greater community

Required

Bachelor's degree in a music technology related field and relevant music industry experience required
Candidates must show demonstrated proficiency in at least one digital audio workstation, such as Logic Pro or Ableton Live
Experience in digital music production, including recording, mixing, etc
Success in teaching and recruiting

Preferred

Masters / Doctorate preferred
Instrumental performance and teaching experience is preferred
Desired instruments include: bassoon, guitar, oboe, piano, trumpet, or other woodwinds
