Senior Center Coordinator - Assessment Specialist

Forsyth County is seeking a Senior Center Coordinator to oversee the organization and implementation of services within the Senior Services Division. The role includes conducting assessments for clients, coordinating activities, and ensuring food handling compliance while managing a team of staff and volunteers.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Conducts assessments to all clients and potential clients throughout the county
In charge of special projects as determined by your supervisor
Conducts site activities geared toward socialization among participants and arranges for varied presentations by other agencies or individuals offering useful entertainment or enlightenment designed to interest older persons
Prepares steam table and serving utensils
Receives, counts, checks temperature and taste tests all foods upon arrival at site
Reads invoices, records temperatures and other pertinent data
Cleans trays, utensils, steam table, refrigerator, surrounding area, and related equipment daily
Maintains clean storage area
Monitors stored food condition
Ensures adherence to all food-handling policies and procedures
Oversees the meal and transportation reservation process
Coordinates the activities of volunteers, Home Delivery Drivers, and senior employment staff in the receiving, serving, and/or packaging of food items for both congregate and home-delivered consumption
Interviews, selects, and trains the team of site staff and volunteers
Recruits and trains volunteers for home delivery and site assistance and monitors their performance
Performs the duties of any of these positions when vacant
Assists in the administration of activity program areas, registers participants, answers inquiries, develops posters and publications, opens and closes facility, and ensures proper cleanup
Assists with the initial client intake and assessment process
Prepares reports as required by supervisor, i.e., attendance, accident, and program evaluations
May also assist in preparing publicity and written program descriptions
Enters client reservations for meals and generates a Daily Meal Order via a computer
Responsible for security and safety of area or facility; enforces rules, regulations, and safety precautions; maintains order and discipline, sets up equipment and rooms
May be responsible for a facility operation in absence of a supervisor
Recommends, assigns, and evaluates facility maintenance
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects
Performs related work as required

Required

Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects
Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communications
Ability to bend, stoop, and squat frequently
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma
Experience working with the public, preferably with the elderly
Experience in the operation of personal computer
Must possess a valid Florida driver's license
701B certification must be obtained within 90 days after date of hire
Certification in CPR and First Aid must be received within six (6) months of employment
Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and equipment requirements of nutrition programs
Knowledge of the needs within the community
Knowledge of the procedures involved in a social service program
Knowledge of computer programs such as word processing and have the ability to enter into a data base
Requires some latitude in independent judgment and decision-making
Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with associates, subordinates, and the public
Must be able to work independently and without close supervision
