Empower Advocate
Rescue Her is dedicated to empowering survivors of sex trafficking to live in freedom. The Empower Advocate serves as a field-based victim service provider, responding to crisis calls and providing advocacy and support to survivors, while collaborating with community partners to offer comprehensive services.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director of Victim Services and Advocate Supervisor, provide advocacy, emotional support and case management services to sex trafficking survivors (ages 18+)
Collaborate with survivors to plan, implement, monitor, and amend individualized services that promote clients’ strengths, safety, well-being, while helping them achieve their self-determined goals
Responsible for traveling throughout the four local service counties for on-site client meetings on a weekly basis (often including nights/weekends); transporting survivors to various meetings and appointments
Help answer any questions the survivor has on the legal process of the investigation and prosecution of their trafficker(s) and assist them through that process, when needed
Emphasis will be placed on clients’ self-determination, feeling understood, and having choices and options. Services should return a sense of control to survivors
Connecting and referring the survivor with trauma-informed services including but not limited to: residential/drug/alcohol/mental health treatment, counseling and therapy services, support groups, 12-step programs, legal services, family counseling, transitional housing, job skills training, crime victims’ compensation applications, medical services, and tattoo removal
Serve in rotation on a 24-hour Crisis Response Team. Rescue Her currently operates a 9-5 crisis hotline, but will be moving back to a 24/7 in 2026
This team rotates the responsibility of answering Rescue Her’s 24-hour phone line (calls from various community members, law enforcement, medical staff, and more) and immediately responding to the incident
When on call, the Empower Advocate will dispatch immediately to meet with the victim. The Advocate will accompany the victim to emergency medical treatment (if necessary), and ensure provision of needed food, clothing, emergency shelter, and support connections
Prioritize collaboration with partners and resources, both local and nationwide, for the ultimate purpose of empowering survivors
Work cohesively with community partners (law enforcement, Homeland Security, the National Human Trafficking Hotline, shelters, hospitals, other nonprofit agencies, etc.)
Maintain strong community partnerships alongside Director of Victim Services and Community Engagement Coordinator to increase the crisis and stabilization services Rescue Her is able to offer survivors
Empower Advocates will work directly with volunteers who assist with carrying out services for survivors (ex: Volunteer Mentors, Meals Team, etc)
We are a small team, and therefore work collectively on certain fundraisers, awareness campaigns, and community events. As these arise, you will be asked to participate in attending and assistance
Acquire and maintain deep knowledge of sex trafficking and trauma associated with this abuse, evidence-informed practice, sociohistorical context, policy, research, and evaluation methods relevant to case management and the sex trafficking population, and shall use such information to ensure excellence in service delivery
Assume personal responsibility for professional development and competence and be enrolled in Trust-based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Caregiver training during their first two years of employment (training paid for by Rescue Her)
Prioritize personal care and respite, and utilize time off responsibly in order to carry out the job long-term
Qualification
Required
Spanish speaking preferred
Must live within 40 miles of Downtown Dallas
Ability to have a flexible schedule; often working nights and weekends
Ability to work in fast-paced, intense, high-pressure environment
Excellent attention to detail and dexterity to manage multiple clients simultaneously
Demonstrated ability to communicate (emails, texts, phone calls) clearly, timely and consistently with many different partners
Ability to work independently and to be a self-starter
Demonstrated ability to calmly and effectively handle multiple crises
Demonstrated competence in cultural humility
Commitment to client empowerment through strength-based and trust-based principles
Ability to prioritize to challenging self-care and personal respite
Be confident in helping to develop new organizational programming and response tactics
Broad knowledge and experience in working with traumatized populations
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with various different groups/individuals for the purpose of reaching a common goal
Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, valid car insurance, willing to utilize personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement for job-related duties)
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Documents, etc
Ability to utilize Apple products. Empower Advocates will be provided a work laptop and phone upon hire
Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements
Bachelor's degree required
Preferred
2 years of professional job experience in a related field preferred
Two years of professional experience working with traumatized youth preferred
Experience working with adult sex trafficking survivors preferred, but not required
Victim services, juvenile services, CPS, domestic violence, and/or experience serving other types of vulnerable populations
Experience with Apricot Essentials case management software or similar case management software preferred
