Responsibilities

Implements and supports facilitators and subject matter experts on simulation activities by setting-up - taking down - cleaning - maintaining simulation equipment based on the needs of the Medical Center as identified through various assessment methods
Responsible for simulation programming - piloting - implementation and revision both for live and virtual simulation environments - including but not limited to - scenario creation and programming of high fidelity simulators and virtual platforms - ranging from basic workforce to highly specialized clinical positions (i.e. - nursing - advance nurse practice - physicians - psychologist - respiratory therapists - etc.)
Responsible for the preparation of pre-simulation activities by organizing simulation technology and supplies - providing all necessary documentation of simulations - reviewing policies and procedures - obtaining consents and ensuring proper set-up of the simulation learning environment - control room and AV equipment
Execute simulations independently through the operation of equipment - recording simulation activities - monitoring safety of participants - troubleshooting equipment during learning activities and participating in scenarios
Perform post simulation activities such as debriefing playbacks - administer learners and faculty evaluations and return lab to pre-scenario conditions
Collaborate with multidisciplinary - multilevel faculty and staff as it relates to curriculum design - scheduling - standardizing procedures - demonstrating new technology and providing expert level technical support
Development and maintenance of the Clinical Simulation Center on-line calendar and scheduling
This requires a specific knowledge of set-up and tear-down procedures - knowledge of specific scenario supply requirements and time requirements - and customer debriefing and educational training needs
Works with the REdI Director and implements - revises and maintains a formal - comprehensive mock code program - monitoring - coordinating - maintaining and participating in drills throughout all areas of the Medical Center and the CBOCs
Independently adjusts materials and methods based on measured outcomes
Complete training as a BLS instructor - conduct classes - and serve as an independent training specialist/facilitator for the Resuscitative Education Initiative including the Heart Code - Quality Improvement - and Voice Advisory Manikin BLS and/or ACLS programs
Autonomously monitors classes and seminars to evaluate employees - instructors and training aids
Uses evaluations to improve the training program
Advises instructors in performance improvement opportunities
Informs management on the progress and potential of instructors and employees
Advocate for simulation technology and training opportunities throughout facility/community promotion - procurement of equipment - coordinates training and integration of simulation of simulation into education courses offered at the Medical Center
Including cooperative simulation activity coordination with local colleges - community hospitals and Emergency Medical Services
Independently supports daily operations of the of the simulations center to include scheduling - orientation of students and faculty - maintaining records - and providing technological support
Work closely with all levels of the Medical Media - Biomedical Engineering - Information Technology and Information Resource Management Departments to maintain and repair equipment and to provide high quality simulation activities in accordance with VHA policy and procedures
Work closely with all levels of Logistics Department in equipment intake and send outs - ensures accurate equipment inventory logs and prepares proper documents for Electronic Inventory Lists to be modified when needed
Knowledge with computer software - audio-visual equipment and effective interfacing with clinical staff is necessary
Maintains - reviews - inputs data and runs reports of simulation activities
Works with the Simulation Director on revising evaluations and inputting simulation training productivity data
Maintains a comprehensive - expert knowledge of and able to install hardware equipment and software programs - maintains warranties - cleans equipment - troubleshoots equipment failures including complex high fidelity mannequins and computerized Audio/Visual equipment - and initiates work orders

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement
For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05
The grade may have been in any occupation - but must have been held in the Federal service
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year - it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade - as required by the announcement
In this instance - you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization
Examples of specialized experience would typically include - but are not limited to: conducting simulation training and all of its functions - programming requirements - processes - and procedures in order to instruct others - troubleshoot user and technical problems - and access or launch simulated courses; and presenting ideas clearly both orally and in writing to effectively present findings and make recommendations in briefings - projects - staff reports - correspondence - etcetera
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience
To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 1 full year of graduate level education - or - superior academic achievement (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level
You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond 1 full year of graduate level education - or - superior academic achievement (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
The work requires physical effort
There will be walking - standing - bending - carrying of items such as task trainers - manikins - boxes of training equipment - movement of equipment such as beds - overbed tables - chairs - etc
Typically - the employee will configure the simulation center or in-situ area to meet the requirement of the simulation activity that will take place
The work will require walking and lifting as indicated below: 1. Walking-required to become familiar with the Medical Center and location of training locations; 2. Lifting-Simulation equipment that may weigh in excess of 50 pounds; 3. Transport-movement of equipment throughout the Medical Center and to - from and throughout the outlying areas
