Mainframe Performance & Capacity Engineer
SRM Digital LLC is seeking a Mainframe Performance & Capacity Engineer to provide technical leadership for enterprise-wide performance and capacity management initiatives. The role involves monitoring system health, optimizing architectures, and leading capacity planning activities across complex IBM z/OS infrastructures.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership for enterprise-wide performance and capacity management initiatives across complex IBM z/OS infrastructures
Continuously monitor and assess real-time system health and performance, including CPU utilization, memory consumption, DASD performance, and WLM-managed workloads
Apply advanced expertise in IBM zEnterprise hardware architecture, RMF, SMF, SAS, MXG, and related performance and capacity management tools
Design, implement, and optimize SYSPLEX architectures, WLM policies, and PR/SM configurations, including General Purpose (GP) and zIIP processor optimization
Analyze and interpret performance data to deliver executive-level reporting, dashboards, and actionable recommendations
Develop and execute performance tuning strategies, including recommendations for service class definitions, dispatching priorities, workload placement, and resource allocation
Lead capacity planning and forecasting activities, utilizing historical data and predictive modeling to align infrastructure capacity with business demand
Support cost optimization initiatives, including SCRT reporting, vendor performance reviews, infrastructure sizing, and long-term resource planning
Participate in a structured on-call rotation, providing 24x7 support for mission-critical systems and ensuring adherence to enterprise service levels
Qualification
Required
Demonstrated expertise in mainframe performance engineering, including system observability, capacity management, and advanced performance analytics within large-scale IBM z/OS environments
Proven ability to diagnose and remediate real-time system performance issues, including hands-on tuning of Workload Manager (WLM) policies and batch initiator configurations
Proficiency in REXX and/or Python scripting, Job Control Language (JCL), and DB2 for automation, analysis, and performance optimization
Comprehensive understanding of batch processing architectures, job scheduling frameworks, and enterprise workload execution models
Deep technical knowledge of SMF and RMF data structures, WLM service definitions, and z/OS workload behavior across diverse system conditions
