Advanced Sourcing Engineer

They are seeking an Advanced Sourcing Engineer to connect product design with supplier capabilities, focusing on sourcing strategy, supplier development, and cost optimization for mechanical fabrication and enclosure systems.

Responsibilities
Partner with Engineering and Program Management early in the concept and design phases to ensure supplier input drives design feasibility and manufacturability
Influence design decisions based on fabrication feasibility, material availability, and total cost of ownership
Develop comprehensive sourcing strategies that balance capability, cost, risk, and regional manufacturing alignment
Provide early cost modeling, should-cost analysis, and supply risk assessments to inform design-to-cost initiatives
Identify and qualify suppliers specializing in mechanical fabrication—including sheet metal, welded assemblies, frames, and precision-machined components
Conduct supplier technical reviews, process capability audits, and prototype builds
Collaborate with Supplier Quality and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure supplier readiness for production scale-up
Establish clear metrics and readiness plans for suppliers entering NPI and full production phases
Manage RFQ processes and supplier selection activities for new programs, ensuring alignment with GTI’s cost, quality, and schedule objectives
Drive sourcing deliverables through NPI phase-gate milestones, ensuring PPAP/FAI documentation and readiness criteria are met
Partner with internal manufacturing and external contract manufacturers to coordinate build readiness and material flow
Develop and implement risk mitigation plans to ensure continuity of supply and timely execution of production launches
Lead cost-reduction initiatives through value engineering, alternative process/material selection, and supplier consolidation
Support ongoing standardization and commonization efforts across mechanical and enclosure programs
Contribute to supplier performance management and post-launch cost-down initiatives
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement lessons learned and best practices from prior NPI cycles
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or related technical discipline)
5+ years of experience in sourcing, supplier development, or manufacturing engineering within mechanical or metal fabrication environments
Strong knowledge of fabrication processes: laser cutting, forming, machining, welding, coating, and mechanical assembly
Proficient in interpreting 3D CAD models and mechanical drawings (GD&T)
Experience with cost modeling, make-vs-buy analysis, and DFM/DFA collaboration with design teams
Proven success engaging suppliers during prototype and NPI development phases
Familiarity with quality systems such as ISO 9001, AS9100, or ISO 13485
Preferred
Experience with supplier transitions, localization, or nearshoring strategies
Exposure to modular fabrication, defense, or industrial enclosure systems
Background working within structured NPI or Phase-Gate environments
Certification in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE)
