Technical Training Specialist
Russell Tobin's client, an American electric utility company, is hiring a Remote Instructional Designer & Technical Training Specialist. The role involves conducting training needs assessments, designing comprehensive training plans, and developing engaging training materials for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Responsibilities
Conduct needs assessments, job/task analyses, and focus groups with subject matter experts to analyze training needs and business requirements
Research, design, and develop comprehensive training plans, including scope, timelines, and deliverables (e.g., presentations, job aids, user guides, e-learning modules, and virtual/instructor-led courses)
Consult with clients to determine the most appropriate training solutions for their needs
Interpret and translate complex technical project documentation (e.g., functional specifications, test scripts) into engaging training materials for both technical and non-technical audiences
Manage client expectations, provide recommendations, and communicate regular project status updates
Lead meetings and focus groups with subject matter experts to gather information for content development
Present and facilitate train-the-trainer sessions
Manage multiple training projects, overseeing scope, milestones, schedules, deliverables, and resources to meet defined goals and objectives
Proactively problem-solve, troubleshoot, and mitigate issues related to training development and implementation
Perform other related responsibilities and duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, business, or an appropriate technical discipline; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Minimum of five years of experience designing and developing systems and/or technical course materials
Demonstrated skills in applying instructional design principles and adult learning methodologies (e.g., ADDIE, SAM) to create effective training materials
Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities to identify issues, synthesize information from various sources, and translate complex technical data into clear training requirements and content
Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SnagIt, and at least one eLearning authoring tool (such as Articulate Storyline/Rise, Adobe Captivate, or Camtasia)
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with experience facilitating training sessions and train-the-trainer programs
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, subject matter experts, and team members to develop targeted training solutions
Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, including scoping, scheduling, milestone tracking, deliverable management, and resource coordination
Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working independently in an environment with ambiguity and change
Proactive, highly organized, and a committed team player
