Responsibilities
Design, deploy, and operate large-scale distributed search clusters
Optimize indexing, querying, shard strategies, and cluster performance for scalability and reliability
Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance, stability, and scalability issues in production search systems
Support modernization and migration initiatives across search platforms (e.g., Solr to OpenSearch/Elasticsearch)
Collaborate with application and platform teams to improve search relevance, latency, and throughput
Contribute to search architecture decisions, capacity planning, and operational best practices
Qualification
Required
10+ years of experience as a backend, platform, or infrastructure engineer
Strong hands-on experience with distributed search technologies such as Apache Solr, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or similar platforms
Proven experience operating search systems at very large scale (hundreds of millions to billions of documents)
Experience building and operating data ingestion pipelines, including data migration and reindexing for Elasticsearch/OpenSearch
Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts, including sharding, replication, cluster coordination, failover, and index lifecycle management
Demonstrated expertise in performance tuning and optimization of search workloads
Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in production environments
Preferred
Hands-on experience migrating or modernizing search platforms (e.g., Solr → OpenSearch/Elasticsearch)
Experience deploying and operating search systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools for search performance analysis
Experience building and operating highly available, fault-tolerant systems
