The role involves supporting public safety and security operations to ensure a safe environment for guests, employees, and animals within the zoo.

Responsibilities
Politely and diplomatically enforces policies and procedures concerning both guests and employees
Responds appropriately and assists in potential emergency situations
Follows established guidelines to promote the safety of guests and staff
Closing and/or opening the park
Securing and/or opening buildings and gates as required
Performing security patrols throughout the shift
Answering alarms and monitoring building temperatures as required
All other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School or General Education Development (GED) diploma
An equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to Central NC (heat, rain, or cold)
Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions
Possesses sufficient cognitive ability, auditory and visual acuity, and communication skills to perform essential duties and follow general safety practices
Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, reaching, standing, walking, and lifting or carrying 30 lbs
Must have the ability to navigate paved as well as rough or uneven pathways
Must be willing and able to work varied shifts, including holidays and weekends
Available to work weekends and holidays
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license or obtain one within 90 days of employment
