Accounting Clerk

City of Grand Island is seeking an Accounting Clerk to perform a variety of transactional duties within the Finance department. The role involves accurate compilation, analysis, and distribution of data essential for the Finance Department's daily functions.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required
May oversee the job cost accounting work order procedures); enter various information regarding scheduled work into the computer or other books as necessary; provide details regarding the cost of various materials and work performed; calculate any special billings; complete information on finished work on a monthly basis; prepare reports reviewing completed jobs; submit listing of new jobs to departments as necessary
Complete monthly utility work order processing procedures
May perform a variety of data entry duties including merchandise billing. Balance and reconcile data to ensure accuracy
Perform various banking related duties, such as the clearing of checks
May balance cash drawer and prepare money for deposit
Provide customer service. Duties would include, but are not limited to, assisting customers with inquires and requests either in person or over the phone, taking payments over the phone and assisting with the collections process
May prepare utility billing schedule from meter reading schedule; load and unload routes into electronic meter reading equipment; review meter reading reports and verify accuracy of reads; estimate billings for accounts not read or for stopped meters; schedule readings for accounts which were skipped
May process and submit charge offs for over-billed accounts; submit missed bills on under-billed accounts and issue corrected bills
Assist in other functions of the department which may include handling and balancing other utility billing data, reviewing and analyzing demand floors and sewer bases, collecting utility payments and posting payments in computer; provide change to employees and the public; sorting and filing various paperwork as necessary
Process all meter changes, removals and new meter sets. Update all information on computer
Assist with the preparation of purchasing, accounts payable and accounts receivable documents; control and verify accounts; prepare related reports as appropriate
May sort incoming and outgoing daily mail; maintain records of postal charges for each department; balance postage accounts and bill each department for postage used; purchase postage for postage meter. Operate all mailing equipment including inserting and folding equipment
May verify data on purchasing invoices received from vendors; calculate discounts on invoices as necessary; distribute invoices to proper departments
