Responsibilities
Identify, qualify, and secure external partners that align to Goodwill’s mission, revenue objectives, and strategic priorities (e.g., retail/resale, donations of returns and excess inventory, recycling, logistics, marketplaces, and enabling technologies)
Structure and negotiate agreements (e.g., MOUs, commercial contracts, data-sharing, pilots) that are durable, scalable, and supportive of local Goodwill operational realities
Operationalize partnerships through pilot design, onboarding, enablement, and scale planning—collaborating closely with Donated Goods Retail, Sustainability, Mission Advancement, Legal, Finance, and Data/IT teams
Think holistically about Goodwill’s enterprise strategy—ensuring external relationships accelerate network innovation, improve economics, and enhance workforce and community impact
Collaboratively work with the executive leadership team on national partnership roadmap across priority categories (retail/brands, suppliers, recyclers, logistics, marketplaces, technology providers), in close collaboration Goodwill Members
Provide project management and implementation of segment-specific value propositions (e.g., donations and reverse logistics; resale and marketplace integrations; recycling and diversion; analytics and automation) tailored to partner needs and local Goodwill capabilities
Assist with maintaining a qualified pipeline (prospects opportunities pilots• scaled initiatives), with clear stage definitions, timelines, and performance targets
Help establish deal design, pricing, and term negotiations for commercial and strategic agreements; ensure alignment with mission, economics, sustainability objectives, and member requirements
Coordinate cross-functional input (Legal, Finance, Data/IT, Member Advancement) to shape agreements (e.g., SLAs, data governance, compliance, reporting, revenue-sharing, risk mitigation)
Create repeatable templates (term sheets, MOUs, pilot charters) that accelerate deal velocity while protecting the network’s interests
Translate commitments into well-scoped pilots with clear hypotheses, operational requirements, measurement plans, and success criteria
Partner with GII teams and participating Goodwill organizations to onboard, enable, and support pilots—removing barriers, troubleshooting, and capturing learning
Drive scale plans for successful pilots (playbooks, training, process/tooling, readiness assessments, commercialization paths)
Serve as the day to day contact and project manager for key corporate partners—establish governance, cadence, QBRs, joint roadmaps, and issue escalation
Support identifying expansion opportunities (additional members, markets, product lines, donation lanes, tech integrations) and assist with cross-network rollout
Monitor partner satisfaction and renewal/extension strategies, ensuring long-term viability and mutual value
Track industry trends across retail/resale, circular economy, recycling, logistics, marketplaces, and enabling technologies; synthesize implications for Goodwill
Provide subject matter expertise to briefings, partner dossiers, and executive updates to inform strategic decisions and member engagement
Alongside leadership represent GII in external forums (industry events, consortiums) to elevate Goodwill’s role as a partner of choice
Manage and track KPIs for partnerships (e.g., revenue, supply volumes, diversion rates, job placements, cost-to-serve, member participation, customer experience)
Ensure data-sharing and reporting protocols are embedded in agreements and operationalized during execution
Provide transparent dashboards and narratives for leadership and participating members
Apply best-in-class project management methods to launch and scale partnerships on time, within scope, and budget—aligned to GII’s pilot management frameworks
Identify risks, remove barriers, and lead rapid iteration based on network feedback and data
Coordinate enablement materials (playbooks, SOPs, training) for members and internal teams
Contribute to GII’s strategic planning cycles by facilitating external partnership opportunities to network priorities and capacity
Support Member engagement through briefings, matchmaking, RFP development, and cohort formation for multi-member partnerships
Qualification
Required
Proven business development and partnership leadership at scale, with a strong track record in complex, multi-party deals
Strong strategic thinking and financial acumen (market sizing, pricing, unit economics, ROI modeling)
Excellent stakeholder engagement and executive communication; ability to build trust across corporate partners, internal leaders, and local Goodwill organizations
Demonstrated program execution in networked or federated environments—turning strategy into operational reality
Deal structuring and negotiation skills; familiarity with commercial terms, SLAs, data-sharing agreements, and risk mitigation
Proficiency with CRM and pipeline management, analytics, and business intelligence tools
High ethical standards, mission orientation, and commitment to equitable outcomes
Ability to travel as required
Bachelor's degree required
5+ years in business development, corporate partnerships, strategic alliances, and corporate strategy—ideally within consulting, retail/resale, social enterprise, sustainability, logistics, or technology sectors
Demonstrated success leading complex partnerships from origination through scale, with measurable impact
Experience working in federated networks or multi-stakeholder environments is a plus
Preferred
Understanding of retail/resale, circular economy/sustainability, reverse logistics, recycling, and/or digital marketplace trends
