Stewpot Community Services, Inc. is seeking a Director for the Billy Brumfield Men's Shelter, responsible for managing operations and programs at the shelter. Responsibilities

Coordinate, organize and oversee the operations and programs of the Brumfield Shelter and ensure that a safe, clean and welcoming atmosphere is provided for all clients
Develop and supervise an interview and screening process for applicants to determine their eligibility to stay at the Men’s Shelter according to procedures adopted by the Director of Shelter Services and/or Chief Operations Officer
Establish daily and direct contact and conversation with Brumfield clients
Develop and implement a manual of shelter rules and procedures and ensure their enforcement by staff and clients, taking disciplinary action when warranted. Review disciplinary actions with the Director of Shelter Services and/or Chief Operating Officer on a regular basis
Work with the Director of Volunteer Programs to recruit and then manage volunteers to help with administrative and/or program activities at the Shelter
Work with the Director of Maintenance, Facilities and Transportation to ensure that shelter facilities and equipment are in working order, properly maintained, and repaired, when needed, in a timely manner. In conjunction with this responsibility, the director shall organize regular cleanup days at the shelter
Work with the staff of Billy Brumfield Shelter to ensure that food, paper, cleaning, office and other supplies and products are ordered, processed and stored at the Shelter according to Stewpot policies and procedures
Serve as Stewpot's liaison with other related agencies in and around Jackson including programs making use of those contacts to improve the program
In conversation with the COO, oversee the hiring of part-time and full-time staff members and the supervision and evaluation of their work, making sure that staffing schedules are in place for the effective operation of the shelter, and that regular meetings are held for the staff
Make referrals to other agencies or ministries when applicants are not eligible or when assistance is not available through Stewpot
Follow bed bug protocol
Fill in for any shelter staff when the need arises
Prepare and maintain all records related to the Billy Brumfield Shelter and work with other Stewpot staff members in providing information to granting agencies
Attend regularly scheduled Stewpot staff meetings
Complete call/activity log
Complete time and sign-in forms
Notify Director of Shelter Services and/or COO of vacation leave and absences due to illness or other reasons
Work collaboratively with Stewpot shelters, as well as other area agencies, to implement and support a seamless system of care
Monitor the staff’s use of HMIS and ensure that all information is being entered correctly and in a timely manner
Perform special assignments from the Executive Director
Make appearances and speak at local churches and other civic organizations to educate the public about the work of the Billy Brumfield Shelter
Coordinate with the volunteer assistant program by providing opportunities for men staying at the Shelter to participate in work at the Stewpot’s main campus
To the extent that opportunities present themselves, welcome volunteers, persons making in-kind donations, and others to Stewpot and ensure that they are introduced to the appropriate staff person
Always be thinking of ways in which the Brumfield Shelter program can be made more effective in reaching the homeless population of Jackson and more cost efficient in the way in which it administers its programs

Required

Bachelor's Degree preferred
At least three years of experience working with people experiencing homelessness or other at-risk populations
Offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable criminal background check
Deep passion for ministering to people experiencing homelessness in all their complexity and beauty
Belief in the dignity and humanity of all persons, regardless of station or status
Ability to build and lead a team and to inspire teamwork in a challenging environment
Ability to de-escalate conflict and defuse tense situations
Willingness to learn, grow and develop as a person of faith and as a leader
