Responsibilities

Work closely with producers, reporters, anchors, and photographers on compelling, impact-driven original storytelling and daily news coverage
Review and approve scripts to ensure accuracy, clarity, tone, and strong storytelling
Provide hands-on writing assistance and coaching to producers and reporters, particularly on complex or high-impact stories
Oversee production of newscasts
Make split-second decisions to lead the news team during breaking news and severe weather events
Work with executive producers to ensure a multi-platform content approach at every stage of the news-gathering process

Required

Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, and prior newsroom leadership experience
5-7 years of content experience, including generation of original content
Strong journalistic judgment with an emphasis on accurate, fair, and compelling local content, along with community engagement
Demonstrated experience editing, approving, and coaching scripts and written content
Excellent people management skills
Strong communication and conflict management skills
Strong organizational skills in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
