Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation) NY HELPS Region 9
The NYS Department of Transportation is seeking a Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation) to work in the Regional Traffic & Safety Group. The role involves performing professional engineering duties related to traffic engineering, safety program management, and transportation systems management, while also supporting emergency situations as needed.

Responsibilities
The incumbent in this position will work under the direction of a Professional Engineer 2 (Civil/Transportation) or the Regional Traffic Engineer (RTE) and will perform professional engineering duties, including those of high degree of complexity, related to all types of: traffic engineering and mobility; safety program management; transportation systems management and operations
Specific assignment for this position may be made to the Traffic Signal Management, Safety Evaluation, Commercial Development/Permits, or Traffic Engineering/Design Review Units
Reassignments within the Traffic Group to address immediate operations engineering or operational needs can be expected
The duties of this position may require considerable travel and field work
At the time of appointment and continuously thereafter, possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State may be required or the ability to meet the travel requirement of the position must otherwise be demonstrated
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations
Qualification
Required
A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below
A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below
Qualifying degrees: Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning and Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees
One year of full-time engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroads, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems
Possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State may be required or the ability to meet the travel requirement of the position must otherwise be demonstrated
Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law
You must have a New York State Professional Engineer's License and current registration AND be a qualified employee of New York State AND have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as follows: Assistant Engineer (Civil/Transportation)
Your required educational credentials must have been awarded by an educational institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education
If awarded by an institution outside of the U.S. and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Candidates selected for appointment must provide an original document to prove their citizenship and/or legal right to work in the United States
