Responsibilities

Lead database strategy, modernization, and architectural redesign efforts
Guide teams in decomposing monolithic databases into modular, domain-aligned schemas
Collaborate with application, QA, cloud, and O&M teams to support integrated modernization
Define and enforce data governance, security, and performance optimization standards
Support cloud migration initiatives (AWS preferred) and database re-platforming
Conduct data modeling, schema design, tuning, and lifecycle management
Provide technical leadership for federal compliance requirements, security controls, and audits

Qualification

Required

5+ years of leadership experience in database engineering or data architecture
3+ years supporting federal IT programs of comparable scale
Expertise in relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, DynamoDB)
Proven experience with enterprise database modernization and cloud-native data services
Strong background in data modeling, ETL, optimization, and database security

Preferred

Relevant certifications preferred: AWS, Database Admin/Architect certifications
