Responsibilities
Design and implement complex AI behaviors (C++, Unreal Engine, Behavior Trees/State Machines)
Implement advanced navigation using UNavigationSystem, custom NavLinkProxy (jumping, climbing), and NavModifierVolumes for fluid traversal in complex 3D environments
Develop enemy encounter systems, including individual logic and Group Coordinator systems (aggression, flanking, tactical positioning)
Implement and tune sensory systems (extending AIPerceptionComponent, AISense classes) for natural NPC reactions to visual, auditory, and damage stimuli (supporting stealth/combat)
Bridge AI logic and animation graphs; implement grounded movement (e.g., Motion Warping) for high-fidelity character locomotion and to eliminate "sliding."
Profile and optimize AI systems using Unreal Insights; ensure efficient code runs within CPU budgets (managing tick intervals)
Mentor junior programmers, conduct code reviews, and champion clean, performant code standards
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's in CS, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
4+ years in game development, focusing on AI, with at least one shipped AA/AAA title
Strong proficiency with UE's AI framework, including Behavior Trees & Blackboards (custom C++ Decorators/Services/Tasks), EQS, and Navigation System (RecastNavMesh, NavMeshBounds, filters)
Expert in modern, performant, and memory-efficient C++
Solid grasp of game AI concepts (A* pathfinding, FSMs, Steering Behaviors, spatial reasoning)
Excellent linear algebra and 3D math for vectors, queries, and navigation
Experience with Visual Logger and creating custom debug drawing tools for AI visualization
Excellent communication to translate design into technical solutions and work effectively with Designers/Animators
Fluency in written and spoken English
Preferred
Familiarity with Unreal Engine 5's MassEntity or similar Data-Oriented crowd simulation
Optimization experience for multi-core console AI (PS5/Xbox Series)
Specific experience implementing stealth mechanics (detection, last known position, search patterns)
Experience integrating AI with dialogue systems and scripted sequences (e.g., Level Sequence actors)
