Nature Center Technician – Mosquito Hill Nature Center (seasonal)

Outagamie County is seeking a Nature Center Technician for the Mosquito Hill Nature Center, primarily responsible for maintaining the grounds, facilities, and equipment of the Parks System. The role also includes assisting with educational programming and requires outdoor work in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

Cuts grass, trims trees and shrubs and performs other horticultural and gardening tasks
Performs invasive species control including identification and removal of undesired species
Maintains and cleans buildings and restrooms
Maintains grounds and trail system
May operate heavy or light equipment and assist with their maintenance and repair if qualifications allow
Constructs and maintains signs, boardwalks and small bridges
Assisting the staff with daily duties including leading educational field trips, and staffing major public events
Some weekend work required
Performs other related duties as assigned

Required

Must be at least 18 years old
Must have a valid driver's license
Must have the ability to lift items of 50lbs or more several times per shift
Knowledge of landscaping, horticulture, and/or grounds maintenance
Ability to operate and maintain tools which may include but not limited to mowers, trimmers, and other landscaping equipment
Experience with invasive species identification and removal techniques
Trail maintenance and facility upkeep skills, including minor repairs
Ability to work independently on assigned maintenance tasks
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills when working with staff and volunteers
Familiarity with local ecosystems, plants, and wildlife
Basic understanding of conservation and sustainability practices
This position requires working outdoors on trails and natural areas, including walking, bending, lifting, and working on uneven terrain in varying weather conditions. Employee must adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures to maintain a safe work environment

Preferred

A background in Natural Resources is helpful but not required
