Open Rank Professor of Instruction, Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design (KCEID)

They are seeking an Open Rank Professor of Instruction to lead a new First Year Experience program, coordinating a multidisciplinary course sequence that supports incoming students in engineering, construction science, architecture, and interior design.

Responsibilities
Coordinate, design, and teach the two-semester course sequence, ensuring high-quality implementation across all sections
Develop a multidisciplinary, project-based curriculum emphasizing collaboration, ethical leadership, industry engagement, teamwork, AI literacy, foundational software skills, and hands-on learning
Recruit, supervise, and mentor teaching assistants and peer mentors
Collaborate with faculty across KCEID to align learning outcomes with disciplinary needs and support student progression into major coursework
Collect and analyze student performance and retention data to guide evidence-based enhancements to the first-year experience
Coordinate with the Student Success Center on tutoring, mentoring, career panels, major selection support, and academic resources
Engage in academic innovation, incorporating student-centered pedagogy, research-based teaching practices, and technology-enhanced learning
Qualification
Required
MS or PhD in an engineering, construction science, architecture, or a closely related field
Teaching experience in higher education
This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure
Preferred
Experience in first-year instruction, curriculum development, or project-based learning
Demonstrated use of student-centered pedagogical practices
Ability to support student population reflective of Klesse College across multiple disciplines
Strong organizational skills for coordinating multi-section courses and supervising teaching assistants
Experience integrating tools such as generative AI, engineering and architecture software, or digital design technologies into instruction
Demonstrated commitment to student success and retention
Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and industry partners
