Assistant Vice President, Individual Giving
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is dedicated to driving research for a cure and supporting those affected by MS. The Assistant Vice President, Individual Giving is responsible for leading a team of fundraisers to secure major gifts and drive donor engagement to support the organization's comprehensive campaign.

Responsibilities
Lead a regionally based frontline team of 9-10 professionals focused on mid-level and major gifts donors to ensure revenue goals
Provide strategic direction, performance management, and professional development for the frontline team while managing a small portfolio of prospects
Serve as a strategic advisor to the VP, Individual Giving, providing insights on regional fundraising performance, donor engagement and opportunities for growth
Partner with the Prospect Management and Research team to review and optimize donor portfolios quarterly, ensuring strategic alignment with organizational priorities and donor capacity
Collaborate closely with senior leadership, cross-functional partners, and key stakeholders, to ensure compelling cases for support and integrated fundraising strategies
Apply data analytics and philanthropic trends to evaluate performance and drive fundraising strategy
Partner with internal teams—including executive and regional leadership, prospect research, marketing-communications, donor relations, finance, and legal—to execute coordinated, donor-centered fundraising initiatives
Work cross-functionally with annual fund, direct marketing, executive directors, and peer-to-peer teams to ensure a seamless donor experience and support giving progression
Use data analytics and philanthropic trends to increase revenue, evaluate portfolio performance, and inform fundraising strategies
Assist in the development and implementation of structured stewardship programs in collaboration with Donor Relations to enhance donor retention and deepen engagement
Lead by example, developing the skills and success of direct reports while fostering an inclusive, high-performance culture
Personally manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, guiding them through all stages of the donor lifecycle
Qualification
Required
10 years of demonstrated and relevant fundraising experience (including 6 years of direct team leadership and supervision) with advanced understanding of prospect qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
Record of leadership and accomplishment in fundraising including campaign planning and execution, pipeline development, and revenue generation across multiple markets at the major gifts and mid-level
Able to assess staff talent, mentor, and train others toward a shared vision, providing strategic guidance to ensure staff meet their designated revenue and activity goals
Proven ability to manage broad and technical fundraising campaigns, collaborating effectively with staff and volunteers to secure individual gifts
Demonstrated success in coaching staff to higher levels of gift closure and performance and guiding leadership staff through portfolio management, holding reporting and non-reporting staff accountable to identified revenue and donor targets
Experience developing and monitoring budgets and targets, as well as assessing and adjusting team portfolios to ensure goals are met
Proven nonprofit leadership experience with increasing responsibility, successfully driving 5, 6 and 7-figure gifts
Advanced CRM expertise, leveraging data analytics to drive decision-making and train teams on data-driven fundraising strategies
Extensive experience managing geographically dispersed teams, in remote and hybrid environments, overseeing both revenue generation and project execution
Track record of implementing innovative fundraising strategies that drive engagement and revenue growth
Strong ability to perform under pressure, handle criticism professionally, and consistently meet fundraising commitments
Exceptional project management, strategic planning, and negotiation skills to drive effective resource allocation and optimize fundraising outcomes
Field-based role requiring 30%+ travel, including events, training, regional meetings, and organizational gatherings
