Professional Practice Coordinator - Apheresis

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. The Professional Practice Coordinator (PPC) will be responsible for onboarding and orientation of clinical staff, guiding continuing education, and providing direct patient care in an RN capacity while collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

Responsibilities

Assesses physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and evaluates patients’ adaptation to health changes
Develops a plan of care based on patients’ disease, symptoms, and response to treatment
Educates patients, families, and caregivers on disease processes, treatment, side effects and symptom management
Coordinates with inter-disciplinary team to ensure continuity of care
Refers patients, families and caregivers as appropriate to other clinical resources/professionals such as social work, home health care, clinical nutrition, etc
Implements, evaluates and modifies plan of care
Integrates research and evidence based knowledge into clinical practice
Plan, develop, and facilitate new hire orientation curriculum
Support professional growth and development for frontline staff by supplying resources, organizing and teaching classes and demonstrations, and providing educational opportunities
Function as unit-based education and practice resource
Assess professional nursing practice and intervene when knowledge gaps are identified to promote standardized, evidence-based nursing care
Contribute to systemwide initiatives by supporting change management and providing unit-based expertise
Support students and learners
Actively create, evaluate, and maintain up-to-date policies, procedures, and staff and patient education materials to reflect evidence-based standards for clinical practice and research
Actively collaborate with leadership to set organizational goals, unit goals, implement process improvements, and measure outcomes
Serve as a consultant for Electronic Health Record improvement & optimization as a subject matter expert
Participate in or lead committees and workgroups to support organizational practice
Support unit-specific research implementation as needed
Assist in investigation and response to incident reports filed in Patient Safety Net
Provide direct patient care in a unit-based RN capacity per RN job description

Required

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
Must have current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or current NLC multistate license (MSL); and must upgrade to an MSL primary state of residence, WA, within 60 days of hire. This requirement may be waived under specific circumstances, subject to approval
Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
Additional certification may be required dependent upon department
CITI Training – Good Clinical Practice and Human Subjects Research (required within 6 months of hire)
ONS Chemotherapy Provider Card (required within 6 months of hire) if required by unit
Ability to communicate effectively by looking and listening for cues, asking open-ended questions, exploring cues, using pauses, screening responses, and clarifying response
Ability to effectively listen by using reflecting, acknowledging, summarizing, empathizing, and paraphrasing skill
Ability to effectively provide information by checking what information the person knows already, giving small amounts of information at a time, using clear terms and avoiding jargon, avoiding detail unless it is requested, checking for understanding, and pausing and waiting for a response
Critical thinking and clinical judgement: the ability to practice the cognitive skills of analyzing, applying standards, discerning, information seeking, logical reasoning, predicting, and transforming knowledge
Time management skills: the ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently and prioritize competing activities
Multi disciplinary coordination: ability to organize and facilitate work groups and engage multidisciplinary stakeholders across the organization
Communication skills: ability to communicate effectively by looking and listening for cues, asking open-ended questions, exploring cues, using pauses, screening responses, and clarifying response
Listening and receiving information: ability to effectively listen by using reflecting, acknowledging, summarizing, empathizing, and paraphrasing skill
Content creation: ability to create and revise curriculum and policies according to best practice, while meeting needs of a culturally and generationally diverse group
Teaching skills: ability to effectively provide information through a variety of teaching methodologies including but not limited to: didactic teaching, demonstrations, simulations, competencies, virtual and in-person trainings, in-services

Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job in order to carry out the primary responsibilities

Preferred

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree
Master of Science in Nursing, Education, or Healthcare Leadership
OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) or BMT RN
ACLS and/or PALS AHA Health Provider Card
LEAN or CPI application
2 years of previous RN Oncology experience
