Responsibilities
Participates in supervised training program
Assists in gathering, compiling, and analyzing data
May perform simple technical, clerical, or paraprofessional work
May assist in developing programs and presenting reports
Operates program-related equipment
Depending on assignment, may operate a standard vehicle to travel to multiple locations in order to perform assigned tasks; transporting equipment as needed, and performing assigned tasks at each worksite
Makes oral and written reports
Qualification
Required
Must be Enrolled in a two-year, four-year or graduate degree program
Academic course work should be related to the internship position such as public administration, planning, civil engineering, business, computer science, information systems, criminal justice, recreation or related field
Knowledge of fundamentals of department program area
Knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
Knowledge of basic mathematics including algebra and geometry
Knowledge of computer hardware and software
Knowledge of office methods, practices, and equipment
Skill in following instructions
Skill in accepting supervision and benefit from training
Skill in maintaining confidentiality of information
Skill in communicating effectively
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer
Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen
Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
Ability to inspect City development and construction sites, and wear construction safety equipment
Some positions involve driving and may require a current driver's license and satisfactory driving record
Preferred
Work experience applicable to the internship position being sought or in city government, public administration and/or general office practices is desirable
