Six Red Marbles is supporting the development of a comprehensive Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) preparation program. They are seeking experienced legal Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to provide expert guidance on curriculum and learner materials aligned with SQE1 requirements and assessment expectations.

Responsibilities

Advise on scope, depth, and sequencing of SQE1 curriculum content
Review and validate outlines, sample units, and drafted learner materials
Provide insight into SQE exam technique, reasoning styles, and common candidate challenges
Ensure ongoing alignment with current SRA specifications and assessment practices
Contribute to or review a Civil Law to Common Law bridge module
Advise on conceptual hurdles for civil-law trained candidates
Collaborate with instructional designers to ensure clarity, accuracy, and accessibility
Review core materials to ensure explanations are effective for an international learner audience
Draft and/or review multiple-choice questions aligned to SQE1 formats
Develop clear, instructionally sound rationales
Review questions for validity, fairness, and appropriate difficulty
Advise on assessment design and exam readiness strategies

Qualification

UK-qualified solicitorBarristerSQE1 familiarityLegal education experienceCivil law backgroundCommon law educationAssessment writing experienceCollaboration with designersAttention to detail

Required

UK-qualified solicitor or barrister
Demonstrated, up-to-date familiarity with SQE1 (e.g., teaching, tutoring, curriculum design, assessment writing, or recent exam involvement)
Legal academic or practitioner with a civil-law educational background
Demonstrated experience writing or reviewing high-stakes legal assessments
Strong attention to detail and understanding of assessment quality standards

Preferred

Prior experience in legal education, professional training, or exam preparation strongly preferred
Formal education, training, or practice experience in common law (UK preferred)
Familiarity with SQE or comparable professional legal examinations strongly preferred
