Director, University Accounting Operations
The George Washington University is seeking a Director of University Accounting Operations to ensure the accuracy and completeness of accounting data in their Oracle financial system. This role involves managing the accounting group, overseeing daily transactions, and providing input on personnel actions while striving for continual improvement in team performance.

Responsibilities
Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data in our Oracle financial system
Process departmental journal entries, wires, and remote check deposits
Reconcile and analyze balance sheet accounts
Account for the university’s fixed assets, leases, construction-in-progress, and debt
File applicable state and local sales tax returns
Manage the accounting group that performs the daily accounting transactions for the consolidated University books and records
Assign resources to departmental tasks and establish goals to track staff’s progress
Mentor, develop, and coach the team in alignment with GW & Finance Values
Provide input on personnel actions for the group to senior leadership within the Controller’s Office
Oversee transaction processing, associated account analysis and reconciliations, and reporting of the University’s consolidated cash, credit cards, fixed assets, debt, leases, and federal student loan accounting
Serve as the policy liaison to the Office of Ethics, Compliance, and Risk on behalf of the Controller’s Office
Prepare and/or review regular and ad-hoc reporting, including surveys for external parties, including government agencies
Identify opportunities for process and service improvements within the group
Serve as an escalation point for customer and user inquiries
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience
Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position
Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Criminal History Screening, Education/Degree/Certifications Verification, Social Security Number Trace, and Sex Offender Registry Search
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field is desired
Mastery of accounting, financial management, and other financial and accounting concepts is preferred
Highly developed analytical skills; ability to understand complicated situations and relationships to other processes
Superior computer and software application (Oracle ERP, Microsoft 365, etc.) skills are desired
Well-developed oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to develop and present to all levels of employees up to and including executive leadership
Excellent leadership, supervisory, organizational, and interpersonal skills are desired
Master's degree in accounting or related area (MBA), or CPA preferred but not required
An equivalent combination of education, experience, or credentials is acceptable
