Director of Accounts

Zero Gravity Marketing is seeking a Director of Accounts to lead the Account Management service line. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality delivery, strong portfolio retention, and effective operations across client accounts while mentoring managers and driving accountability within the team.

Responsibilities

Shape the strategic direction of the account management service line, defining how value is delivered, account leadership is structured , and how teams partner cross-functionally
Oversee and execute renewal processes, forecasting, and client communication frameworks
Support annual planning and multi-year account strategy across the portfolio
Define and scale account management frameworks, playbooks, and training programs that improve consistency, communication quality, and cross-functional alignment
Set delivery standards, communication expectations, and operating rhythms that support predictable, high-value client outcomes
Oversee the creation, maintenance, and adoption of SOPs to ensure systems remain current, scalable, and consistently used
Own resource and capacity planning across the account management portfolio, partnering with department heads to support profitability, balanced workloads and reliable delivery
Define how retention, account health, and performance metrics are reviewed and applied across teams
Ensure managers consistently use data to drive proactive, retention-focused decisions
Establish reporting standards that ensure account managers deliver clear, accurate, strategic client narratives
Coach managers and senior account managers on delivering higher quality insights and executive-level communication
Define quality and communication standards that create a consistent, high-trust client experience across accounts
Mentor managers and senior account managers, raising the overall maturity and effectiveness of the account management function
Strengthen escalation judgment, client communication discipline, and decision-making across teams
Create and sustain an environment that supports leadership growth, accountability, and high-performing team dynamics
Define department-wide protocols for early risk detection, escalation, and accountability
Ensure learning logs, retrospectives, and post-mortems are used consistently and drive measurable improvements
Stabilize operations during high-stakes situations and guide teams through complex client challenges

Required

8–10+ years of experience in client services, digital marketing, or a related field
3+ years leading teams in an agency or client services environment
Proven ability to mentor, performance manage and develop account managers and people managers
Proven success retaining and growing portfolios across multi account environments
Experience driving renewals, expansion, and long-term account strategy
Strong cross-functional influence across multiple service lines
Confident communicator with senior leadership in high-stakes or ambiguous situations
