Responsibilities
Works with program managers, project managers, and engineering manager to ensure resources are optimally place on projects
Works with project managers to identify methods to improve project execution, work processes, and procedures to continually improve quality, productivity, and efficiency
Proactively supervises staff by coordinating design tasks with project managers, project engineers, and project leads
Ensures staff stay on task and perform duties within allotted timeframes
Performs technical oversight and coordinates checking/reviews of deliverables and other project documents
Responsible for the development and training of engineers, designers, and drafters within the group
Conduct’s group meetings with staff as needed to communicate department and company objectives
Approves timesheets and authorizes overtime and vacation. May also approve expense reports
Maintains a collaborative environment within the group, ensuring all team members are contributing to the group’s success
Demonstrates excellent communication and leadership skills
Good interpersonal skills, able to build relationships and select team members for specific projects based on skill sets of individual staff members
Is well organized and is well-versed in the design capabilities/limitations of all design team members with the group
Creates an environment conducive to efficient workflow
Shows initiative by taking on additional work responsibilities when the department or group is overloaded
Establishes, promotes, and assures quality on all projects and work performed by the group
Promotes a strong safety culture within the group and ensures staff incorporates safe work practices into all activities
Qualification
Required
4+ years experience in substation/utility design, with at least 2+ in protection and controls design
Minimum bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field
Preferred
Previous management experience is preferred, but not required
Licensed professional engineer is highly preferred, but not required
