Responsibilities

Lead all aspects of mold design while ensuring accuracy, manufacturability, and adherence to specifications
Collaborate directly with tool makers, providing updates, clarifying requirements, and presenting design concepts
Interpret sketches, drawings, and specifications to establish dimensions, clearances, materials, and tolerances
Develop and refine detailed mold designs using CAD software
Conduct design reviews and facilitate technical discussions across cross-functional teams
Partner with planning, manufacturing, assembly, quality, and production teams to ensure seamless execution of designs
Create rough layouts and perform calculations for angles, weights, radii, and dimensions
Identify design issues, propose improvements, and finalize drawing releases and specifications
Perform tolerance stack-up analyses to verify correct fit and functionality
Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and customer expectations
Maintain accurate documentation for all design-related materials
Stay current on industry trends and advancements such as additive manufacturing and new materials

Required

Degree or certification from a recognized CAD training program
3–5 years of experience designing and detailing molds
Experience with rubber or plastic injection molding in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred
Familiarity with project scheduling tools and techniques
Experience working in a production environment; understanding of assembly processes is a plus
Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and how they apply to design
Ability to interpret complex schematics, technical drawings, and documentation
Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners
Highly organized, self-directed, and capable of working with minimal supervision
Professionalism, confidentiality, and independence are essential
