Senior Energy Markets Manager
Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team is responsible for the full lifecycle of Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure. The Senior Energy Markets Manager will manage a portfolio of activities to optimize and execute opportunities in datacenter energy supply and technology, focusing on sustainability and economic value to support Microsoft’s datacenter growth.

Responsibilities
Lead and assist regional PMs on regulatory engagements with utilities, regulators, and related stakeholders important to datacenter infrastructure deliver, cost/range management and sustainability goals
Oversee Regional PMs on datacenter interconnection and energy supply contract development with utilities and third-party energy suppliers in support of Microsoft’s datacenter businesses in the Americas
Lead or assist Regional PMs in the analysis of energy industry trends, market policy and regulations to proactively identify opportunities to reduce cost, minimize risk, and advance sustainability goals
Partner with globally distributed internal stakeholders on site selection and energy project development, e.g. distributed energy, renewables
Work collaboratively with external vendors and consultants on regional market research
Develop internal business cases including providing input on financial models and market research
Build relationships with external suppliers and partners, particularly electric utilities, local and regional regulatory agencies, customers, and energy technology providers
Work with third parties to develop and monitor analytics tools for portfolio analysis
Business travel required (10%-25%, subject to fluctuation with business tempo)
Qualification
Required
Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 4+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
OR equivalent experience
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
Preferred
Doctorate in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
OR Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
OR equivalent experience
1+ year(s) of people management experience
Professional understanding of the power industry, with specific focus on the mechanics of power markets
Ability to understand and review utility tariffs, power contracts, and power market fundamentals
Understanding and experience working with regulatory structures in the energy and utility industry
