Building Maintenance Technician (Carpenter II)

Responsibilities
Performs skilled carpentry work including the construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of doors, frames, hardware, cabinetry, countertops, partitions, trim, flooring, ceilings, and other interior building components
Conducts exterior carpentry and structural repairs including doors, windows, railings, ramps, stairs, decking, and related building features
Performs general facility maintenance tasks such as minor drywall repair, painting, concrete repair, fixture installation, and furniture or casework modification
Maintains and repairs locking systems, door hardware, access-related components, and associated building hardware in coordination with facility security requirements
Responds to work orders and service requests across assigned facilities, prioritizing tasks based on safety, operational impact, and customer needs
Serves as a primary maintenance contact for building occupants, developing professional relationships and ensuring clear communication regarding maintenance activities
Assists other trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, operating engineers) with access, preparation, and support tasks as needed
Coordinates with supervisors, contractors, and vendors to support scheduled repairs and small projects
Uses hand and power tools safely and effectively; operates City vehicles and equipment as assigned
Completes work order documentation and records all work performed using the City’s computerized maintenance management system
Complies with all safety, security, and procedural requirements applicable to court and correctional facilities
Reports to work during emergencies, inclement weather, or critical operational events as designated
Qualification
Required
Four years of experience in carpentry field, facility maintenance, or related skilled trade
One year of supervisory experience
Valid Driver's License
Preferred
Experience performing carpentry and general maintenance work in occupied, secure, or public-facing facilities such as government buildings, courts, or correctional environments
Experience functioning in a multi-trade maintenance role supporting diverse building systems
OSHA safety training or equivalent
