Medium Voltage Electrical Engineer

Responsibilities
Design electrical one-line diagrams, proposals, specifications and drawings for medium voltage systems
Select appropriate components taking into consideration cost, maintenance and reliability of component for the system
Perform calculations and simulations for the safety of the system
Develop conceptual layouts and sketches to drive the most efficient design on a project-by-project basis
Participate in the planning, scheduling and coordinating detailed phases of electrical engineering projects
Work products will include: one-line diagrams, protective relay settings, three line drawings, arc flash assessment and mitigation
Perform power energy and power quality audits
Manage projects for start-up commissioning, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion
Possess strong understanding of medium voltages systems, switchgear and power distribution equipment
Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices
Design protective relay logic schemes and settings
Design DC power for MV support control and annunciation systems
Design medium voltage equipment layouts including, substation yards, medium voltage electrical rooms and outdoor equipment location
Perform tasks associated with the design and engineering of automated switchgear, control systems for Medium voltage and Low voltage electrical power systems in strict compliance with company engineering processes, quality procedures and design standards
Review job order documents processed by the sales department and organize design work
Prepare technical submittals to include layout drawings, sequence of operations, Bill of Materials, wiring schematics, test procedures to meet customer approvals
Work with project management on scope of work and timelines for project completion
Generate detailed design and drawing documents and parts list for manufacturing
Write sequence of operation for automated control and transfer systems
Create electrical schematic and wiring drawings for power and control systems
Generate new PLC and HMI programs and update existing programs for automated control systems
Verify equipment design to meet compliance to applicable UL, NEC, IEEE and NEMA Standards
Develop test procedures and verify that the finished products meet design and performance criteria
Stay technically acquainted with production methods, cost estimating procedures, new development technologies, materials, electrical components, etc
Review electrical drawings and specifications in order to prepare submittals and project quotations that are on budget and on spec
Maintain an excellent working relationship with customers, vendors and other departments within SAI
Occasional weekend and/or evening work and travel to jobsites
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor as needed
Regular in-person attendance is an essential function of this job
Qualification
Required
BS or master's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, robotics and automation, electronics or engineering from an accredited engineering school required
1-3 years' experience as an electrical engineer
Knowledge of PQM and Relays (i.e., SEL, Basler, Schneider, Siemens etc.)
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
Understand electrical engineering including AC-DC Power system, instrument transformers, power distribution, controls etc
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues during the design and testing phases
Knowledge of electrical components
Understand PLC and HMI programming software, Modbus, Modbus/TCP and other related control and communications protocols
Self-motivated and problem-solving skills a must
Familiar with CAD Software tools
Proficient in Microsoft 365
Articulate verbal and written communication skills required with the ability to prepare written specifications and review contractual documents
Must be able to read, write and converse fluently in English with the level of competency that will permit the applicant to function in the position (i.e., facilitate meetings, collaborate with colleagues, and customers through in-person or virtual meetings, quotes, contracts, submittals and email communication)
Preferred
Experience with live electrical power systems or experience gained through internships in a related field preferred
Power engineering background or coursework
Understand UL Standards, NEC, IEEE and NEMA Standards and their application to power distribution equipment preferred
