Lead Hardware Engineer
Nickerson Talent Solutions is seeking a Core Hardware Engineer to design, build, and optimize production hardware platforms for large-scale computing systems. This role involves managing the hardware lifecycle, ensuring performance, reliability, and manufacturability while collaborating with vendors and internal teams.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and optimize production hardware platforms that support large-scale computing systems
Own key portions of the hardware lifecycle, including system architecture, component selection, validation, testing, certification, procurement, and field reliability
Make critical decisions to ensure performance, reliability, security, and manufacturability
Work closely with vendors, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver high-quality hardware solutions
Qualification
Required
6+ years of experience building, validating, and shipping production hardware systems
Expertise in system-level engineering across compute platforms (CPU/GPU), memory/storage, networking, thermals, and power delivery (e.g., PCIe-based systems, high-performance GPUs, high-speed networking)
Experience leading silicon and platform selection decisions, including collaboration with software and infrastructure teams
Strong engineering craft: design, structured validation, operational clarity, and documentation (schematics, BOMs, validation plans, design reviews)
Ability to make trade-offs under real-world constraints, including cost, supply chain, and deployment timelines
Ownership mindset with strong accountability for outcomes
Preferred
Experience rapidly iterating high-performance systems from prototype to production, including bring-up, validation, certification, and field sustainment
Experience managing contract manufacturers and suppliers to ensure quality, security, and cost at scale
Hands-on experience with thermal design, power behavior, performance profiling, and failure analysis
Knowledge of secure hardware design, including secure boot chains, hardware roots of trust (TPM), signed firmware, and secure update mechanisms
Experience building validation, test automation, and manufacturing QA processes that scale across fleets while controlling total cost of ownership
