Patient Service Representative - Atrium Health Corporate PRN

Atrium Health is a part of Advocate Health, the third-largest nonprofit, integrated health system in the United States. They are seeking a Patient Service Representative who will be responsible for registering patients, verifying insurance coverage, coordinating with scheduling departments, and handling patient inquiries in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Registers or Pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services
Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services that requires authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral
Coordinates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged. Requests upfront payment of deposits from responsible party
Updates schedule for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis
Fills critical short term vacancies in designated areas
Registers and interviews patients, completes pre-admissions, and ensures information accuracy
Handles routine patient inquiries and issues
Works closely with other areas including departments and physician offices
Greets patients and processes them through to the appropriate area

Required

High School Diploma or GED required
Accurate spelling and attention to detail required
Must be able to key 40 wpm
Excellent communication skills and customer services skills required

Preferred

Bachelor's Degree preferred
Knowledge of patient registration, insurance, and hospital billing preferred
Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of third party reimbursement preferred
