NEOGOV is seeking a Legal Intern II to provide support to the City Attorney's Office. The role involves assisting with legal research, document preparation, and providing legal opinions to departments.

Responsibilities

Provide assistance to the City Attorney’s Office in performing legal research and writing
Assist in preparing and revising legal documents such as ordinances, resolutions, and contracts
Review and research complex requests for public information
Assist in providing legal opinions to requesting departments
Assist paralegal in preparing litigation documents, including but not limited to, pleadings, discovery requests and responses, and deposition summaries; monitor deadlines to ensure timely completion
Become familiar with general City operations by attending meetings with internal and external stakeholders, as requested
May serve as a liaison between attorneys and departments
May assist the Lead Prosecutor with municipal court tasks

Required

Current enrollment in an ABA accredited law school or recent graduate awaiting bar exam results
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
Knowledge of effective research-based strategies, theories, techniques, and/or methodologies
Knowledge of project management principles
Skill in researching and writing, with a strong knowledge of business correspondence formatting, including language, grammar, and punctuation
Skill in communicating effectively, orally and in writing, for the needs of the audience
Skill at the intermediate level, working with Microsoft Office 365, and software necessary to complete work tasks
Ability to interpret and ensure compliance with local, State and Federal law
Ability to form and maintain effective relationships
Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports
Ability to organize and coordinate work, including maintaining attention to details and quality, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Must have and maintain a valid Class 'C' Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment
Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification
Must be able to work Monday through Friday (schedule to be decided with successful applicant)
