Structural Analyst III – Fluids & Propulsion – Crew Lunar Lander

Blue Origin is working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems. The Structural Analyst III will support the development and testing of the main engines and supporting hardware on the MK2 Crew Lander, focusing on structural integrity throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA), generate FEMs
Performing strength checks using classical hand calculations
Conducting Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA) for critical components
Making predictions, implementing test campaigns, and creating reports in support of hardware qualifications
Collaborating with design engineers to optimize designs for weight, strength, and manufacturability
Documentation and review of structural analyses to support the release of engineering drawings/documents
Providing input for configuration development and trade studies as needed
Mentoring and analysis checks for designers and junior structural analysts in stress/stability/fracture analysis and standard processes
Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to improve structural analysis processes

Required

B.S. in Engineering
5+ years of professional experience performing structural analysis on aircraft, spacecraft or launch vehicle structures
Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle load path and stress analysis of metallic and/or composite structures (pressure vessels, skin-stringer, fittings, sandwich panels, etc.)
Familiarity with classical aerospace sizing methods (Bruhn, Niu, Roark, etc.)
Knowledge of engineering materials and their applications to achieve optimal structures
Experience with at least one of the following analysis codes: Nastran, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Optistruct, NASGRO
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment with partners
Willingness to work on-site with occasional travel

Preferred

Experience performing structural analysis of liquid or gaseous propulsion tubing/systems
Experience supporting planning and execution of system or vehicle-level testing
Demonstrated experience with fluid systems and geometry optimization methods
Demonstrated experience with metallic structural layout, analysis, testing, and qualification methods
Experience writing detailed design and analysis reports
Experience analyzing/dispositioning non-conformances
Experience with Creo
