Responsibilities

Own the complete design development of assigned pump systems (water, coolant, propellant) from concept through testing and flight qualification
Lead sizing, trade studies, and preliminary design phases, establishing technical baselines and performance requirements
Perform detailed mechanical design of pump components: impellers, diffusers, shafts, motors, and bearings
Conduct structural and fluid dynamics analyses, leveraging CAD and FEA tools to optimize performance and validate designs
Execute and manage mechanical, structural, and thermal analyses to validate pump performance across operating environments
Support component and system-level testing, troubleshoot results, and iterate designs based on test data
Lead engineering analysis for Non-Conformance (NC) dispositions and implement robust corrective actions
Ensure designs meet cost and mass targets critical to mission success
Work with multidisciplinary teams across motor design, bearings, fluids, thermal structures, and manufacturing
Collaborate with production and manufacturing partners to ensure designs are buildable and cost-effective
Interface with internal stakeholders, NASA, and National Team partners on technical decisions and design approaches
Mentor and support junior engineers, sharing technical expertise and fostering problem-solving skills
Manage the pump development lifecycle: requirements, interface definitions, design, manufacturing coordination, assembly, and verification
Oversee component integration and assembly processes; maintain quality and technical accountability
Support manufacturing reviews and design-for-manufacturability improvements
Own hardware documentation including engineering drawings, analysis reports, and test plans
Produce clear, compelling technical documentation: engineering drawings with full GD&T compliance, analysis reports, and design presentations
Present technical findings and design rationale to NASA, government partners, and internal leadership
Communicate complex technical concepts across disciplines and to non-technical stakeholders

Proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) for detailed component and assembly design
Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools (ANSYS preferred) for structural and thermal analysis
Strong command of engineering drawing standards including GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and ANSI/ASME practices
Excellent communication skills: ability to present technical work clearly in writing, verbally, and graphically
Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners (government agencies, suppliers, contractors)
Willingness to work on-site with occasional travel

Preferred

M.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related technical subject area
7+ years of progressive pump design experience, including clean-sheet development projects
