HVAC Service Technician I
HomeWorks Energy, Inc. is seeking an HVAC Service Technician I responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The role includes performing routine maintenance, diagnosing issues, and selling HVAC replacement systems to ensure efficient operation for customers.

Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair heating, cooling, and ventilation issues in residential HVAC systems, including furnaces, boilers, combi-boilers, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ductless systems
Use diagnostic tools, digital multimeters, and other equipment to identify issues and perform accurate and timely repairs
Troubleshoot system malfunctions, identify root causes, and recommend solutions to restore comfort in the home
Troubleshoot and repair refrigerant leaks, electrical issues, airflow problems, and other system-related issues
Perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on residential HVAC systems, including cleaning coils, changing filters, checking refrigerant levels, inspecting electrical components, and ensuring all system parts are functioning optimally
Clean and replace air filters, adjust thermostats, and inspect and lubricate moving parts (e.g., fan motors, blowers) to ensure longevity and efficiency of HVAC units
Conduct comprehensive seasonal tune-ups to keep HVAC systems running at peak performance
Offer customers tips and best practices to improve energy efficiency and system longevity
Perform system start-up commissioning for newly installed HVAC units, ensuring proper installation and operational efficiency
Verify that newly installed systems are functioning correctly, making adjustments where necessary to ensure optimal performance
Test and calibrate system controls, including thermostats and dampers, to ensure they meet manufacturer specifications
Provide clients with a thorough overview of system operation, care instructions, and maintenance recommendations
Assess the need for HVAC system replacement during service visits and provide detailed replacement estimates
Educate homeowners on available options, providing solutions that best meet their needs, preferences, and budget
Present and explain product features, benefits, and energy-saving advantages of various replacement systems
Collaborate with the sales team to close sales on HVAC system replacements, ensuring customer satisfaction and retention
Promote energy-efficient products and services that align with current environmental regulations and standards
Maintain a professional, courteous, and helpful attitude when interacting with customers
Clearly explain technical problems and solutions to customers in a way they can understand
Ensure customers are fully informed about system conditions, maintenance needs, and replacement options
Foster positive relationships with clients, ensuring repeat business and customer loyalty
Accurately complete all service documentation, including work orders, invoices, and maintenance records
Ensure all work is completed in compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, and manufacturer’s guidelines
Adhere to company policies regarding safety protocols, including the safe handling of refrigerants and electrical components
Ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained and used according to safety standards
Collaborate effectively with other technicians, service managers, and the installation team to provide comprehensive service
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior technicians as needed
Stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices, continuing professional development through training and certifications
Perform additional tasks as required
Qualification
Required
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
EPA Section 608 Certification
OSHA 10
Valid driver's license and clean driving record
3+ years of experience as an HVAC Service Technician, with a strong background in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of residential HVAC systems
Experience with both conventional HVAC systems and more modern systems like ductless mini-splits, heat pumps, smart thermostats, and high efficiency boiler systems
Proficiency with HVAC diagnostic tools, digital multimeters, and refrigerant handling
Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, components, and their operation
Ability to diagnose and repair complex HVAC issues independently
Experience in system start-up commissioning and installation support
Familiarity with energy-efficient systems and environmentally friendly refrigerants
Ability to assess customer needs and recommend appropriate HVAC solutions
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical customers
Proficiency in using CRM software to track service calls, sales leads, and customer communications
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and excellent time-management skills
Reliable and punctual, with a commitment to meeting deadlines and customer satisfaction
Requires proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English
Preferred
NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification or equivalent preferred but not required
